Session Spotlight: Milestone Sessions

Milestone Sessions:

You may have seen photographers posting about them, but what are they exactly and why should you consider investing in them as a new or expecting parent?

Different photographers approach milestone sessions in their own unique way. I describe my personal style for Milestone Sessions as a mix of classic, heirloom portraiture + personality photoshoot. I recommend scheduling at least two milestone sessions in baby’s first year of life, with my favorite milestone ages being ages Six-Nine Months and One Year. Read on for why I recommend you hire a professional photographer to capture these precious milestone ages!

Six-Nine Months:

Also referred to as a “Sitter Session”, this session is scheduled once baby can sit upright, unsupported – typically between months 6-9. The other benefit of this age is that your baby’s little personality is really starting to shine! They are capable of all kinds of fun, new “tricks” like clapping, laughing, grabbing their toes, and babbling which are so fun to capture as a family photographer. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to “freeze time” since as the saying goes, babies don’t keep. You’ll always have a gallery of professional, high-quality images of your little love to look back on and swoon over.

ONE YEAR:

Taken just before or at their first birthday, One Year Sessions are so much fun – and not just for baby! As a parent myself, it was so fun (and I’ll admit, bittersweet!) watching my son display his sweet, confident, “big boy” personality at his own one-year session. Many families also opt to bring a smash cake and other fun props to their session (I’ll provide a cake stand, vintage white highchair, and simple white diaper cover), which makes for some really fun photos! I recommend scheduling this session 2 weeks before your child’s first birthday so that you have time to order your favorites as prints to frame + display for guests! Parents and siblings are welcome to join in on the fun, or we can focus 100% on your little one! The Studio Client Wardrobe is also available for mamas who are interested in joining their child’s session. Milestone Sessions are available at my Studio in Decatur, or at one of my preferred outdoor locations in the metro-Atlanta area (pending time of year and weather).
